Description
I thought I had an ideal spot for taking some night photos of Toledo Spain so I hiked up a hill across the Tagus River in full anticipation of a great view. When I got to my chosen spot, it turned out to be a military establishment and they didn't take too kindly to a tripod-toting tourist! So I backtracked down the hill. I could not find a good panoramic spot for a photo on this side of town before darkness came. Either there were light poles or bright street lights in the way. In the end I could have saved myself the hike and been contented to stay down by the river as I was here. In this view is the Puente de Alcantara, is an arch bridge spanning the Tagus River. It was built by the Romans after they founded the city. In the Middle Ages it was one of the few entrances into the city for pilgrims. It was declared a national museum in 1921. On the hilltop is the Alcazar. In the winter it was not illuminated on a weekday night. Another disappointment! The Alcazar was once used as a Roman palace in the 3rd century, and was restored under Spanish kings in the 1540s. It played a questionable role during the Spanish Civil War but today houses a regional library and military museum. Despite all the planning gone awry, it was still a beautiful view!
